CPEHS aims to maximize positive peer-to-peer contact such as through panels between alumni and current students. Students learn about college and see how a student like them can achieve, while learning growth mindset language.
Using a Coach-Mentor Model to Inform "Kid Talks"
South Bronx United has designed the role of coach-mentor in which our soccer coaches serve as mentors for the student-athletes on their team. In doing so, coaches aim to support their student-athletes on and off the soccer field to foster growth in academics, athletics, and character.
Using Self-Reflection to Drive College Week Curriculum
YMCA Rowe Scholars staff at Bronx Explorations Academy facilitated college readiness sessions based on student requests and school-wide expectations, accompanied by one-on-one meetings focused on student-led goal-setting and self-reflection to ensure student success in the college application process. Students reported improvement in Growth Mindset on the SSN SEL Survey.
Creating a Student-Centered Program to Build SEL Skills
Y staff introduced a group meeting model that grants opportunities for older students to take leadership roles and for all students to share insights and advice. These discussions led to an increase in Interpersonal Skills, Growth Mindset and Belonging on the SSN SEL Survey.
