We heard insights from Eileen Baptistin Level, Director of Teen and Young Adult Programs (YAP), and Seani Edwards, YAP Participant at The Opportunity Hub, as well as Maggie Raible, Head of Impact and Experience, and Sadia Begum, Basta Fellowship Alum at Project Basta.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Community Insights: Building Student Networks</image:title>
<image:caption>“I remember this one networking event at the beginning [of the Basta fellowship], and we were all in groups with senior professionals. And this CEO of a boutique healthcare consulting company, a very small company… I followed up with him after ….And just by doing that coffee chat, he was like, 'Oh, I'm actually looking for some interns, you know, if you're interested, let me know.' And from that, he gave me an internship opportunity. I don't even think he looked at my resume. So that was the first moment where I was like, 'Okay, this actually works.' And obviously, not everyone you're going to speak to will give you a job right then and there, but things like that do happen if you foster that relationship and connection. So I'm glad I had that Aha moment in the beginning because I was like this isn't just something that people are just telling us to do. It works. It paid off."</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Fostering Youth Wellbeing: Exploring the Role of Authentic Youth-Adult Partnerships in Work Settings - Kellen and Isanere’s presence on the CHCC team was an opportunity to intentionally challenge and disrupt these dynamics and norms. Through their involvement in the initiative, we reimagined what it means to have young people on staff, moving away from tokenizing/transactional relationships between youth and adults towards authentic/transformational relationships. This required us to unlearn adultism and challenge assumptions about their needs and the value that they bring to the space. While Kellen and Isanere learned core skills through their involvement, we intentionally created space for them to tap into their expertise and teach us. Through this, we redefined what we consider to be valuable knowledge within institutional spaces.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Fostering Youth Wellbeing: Exploring the Role of Authentic Youth-Adult Partnerships in Work Settings - For example, a critical work phase within the CHCC initiative was Listening Tours conducted with youth and staff from across member organizations to better understand challenges and bright spots related to wellbeing. Given their positionality, Kellen and Isanere led the youth Listening Tours, directly interviewing young people and analyzing the interviews to surface critical themes. Additionally, they were co-facilitators for our March 2023 Community of Practice session (pictured with the larger SSN team following the event on left), Culturally Responsive Practices to Support Youth Wellbeing, in which their direct lived experience and first-hand knowledge served as the key lever for member learning and application.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Elevating Youth Voice: A Tale of Two Teens - After working closely with this cohort of young people and their adult partners at two of our member organizations, Youth Communication and STEM from Dance, our EYV team received the opportunity to nominate two seniors pursuing higher education for the Meringoff Family Foundation’s eighth-annual Meringoff Valedictory Prize (MVP). The application required them to reflect on their experiences with Student Success Network and EYV, and they were highly encouraged to do so in a creative way. Through this, we were able to learn even more about the impact of this work on youth from their perspective. As you read on, you will gain insight from EYV participants, Vienna Du (Youth Communication, left) and Angeline Benoit (STEM from Dance, right). Their experiences underscore the importance and value of adults authentically engaging with young people, as they describe their working relationships with adult partners.</image:title>
